Usher in summer this weekend with the ultimate warm weather cocktail, The Bella Pesche. It’s not your typical tart bomb of lemon juice and clear liquor. I adapted this cocktail after speaking with a bartender at Morimoto Napa when I asked for something whiskey based with some personality. I’ve called this drink “Summer in a Glass” and it NEVER disappoints.


(Makes 2 cocktails)

4 oz bourbon (I use Evan Williams)

½ oz Luxardo Maraschino

¼ oz lemon juice

½ oz simple syrup (I use brown or raw sugar)

1 ripe peach

8 large basil leaves (plus two more for garnish)

5-6 dashes Angostura bitters.


Muddle a pitted peach and basil leaves with the simple syrup and lemon juice in a large bowl or mixing glass. Add bourbon, Luxardo Maraschino, and bitters and stir well. Pour into a fine mesh sieve or strainer and strain into a rocks glass filled with crushed ice. Press on all solids to get out all the juicy goodness.

Top with a slapped basil leave. Go to a pool or lake. Sip, swim, repeat.
